An ApplicationIt's easy while simply reading the story to take NE 6:8 for granted. But it took real courage to deny a local legit governor 5 times. Nehemiah had full confidence emperor Artaxerxes knew and approved of exactly what he was doing because he'd endorsed and paid for his trip (NE 2:8), so Nehemiah was simply (not to be confused with easily) dealing with an enemy. Jesus will later warn us of this in MT 7:15 & 10:16.

Connect the DotsCompare NE 6:9 to JOS 1:9. / In NE 6:10-13, the sin was using the temple of God in ways not prescribed by God (as if it were ours to do with as we chose) as forewarned in LEV 16:2. Accepting bribes was forbidden in EX 23:8 & DT 16:19. / NE 6 was the last time Sanballat was named, and NE 13 will be the last reference to Tobiah, but there was no description of the earthly fate of either.
