An ApplicationEach of the churches named here were real, and the warnings were specific, but they are also warnings to the rest of us. It's great to believe, and to do good, but for optimal results there are a full spectrum of parameters to stay within. We would be well advised to avoid these common pitfalls of any church, and therefore of any believer. / Twice here Jesus personally condemned sexual immorality. Surely not coincidence that Paul described the one offensive weapon in the armor of God as the sword of the Spirit, the word of God, in EPH 6:17. / REV 2:14 is referring to NUM 25, a very serious incident where God killed 24K people. REV 2:20 is a name reference to 1KI 16:30-31, but in a current event. Both Balaam and Jezebel left a legacy. / REV 2:24 reminds us of 1TI 4:1. If only it were limited to John's time, but sadly it's commonplace today.
