An ApplicationNotice in REV 6:16-17 the people didn't repent, nor apologize, they just wanted out, and they knew there was no way. They lamented there was no one strong enough to stand up to God, because that's what they wanted. Not to conform to God's expectations, but to reject them. This is why the Four Horsemen of the Appocalypse were set loose: this was mankind's reaction, and has so often been through all of human history (MT 7:13-14, ACT 7:42-43).

Connect the DotsMK 13:14-25 / MT 24:1-17 seem to be referring, at least in part, to this. Most think the first part of the Mark/Matthew passages were referring to the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D., specifically, but maybe Jesus was referring to both then and this time in Revelation. I wouldn't put it past Him to have a dual meaning.
